Why does Jeff have a Wood Shop?
Great question many people ask. Jeff lives with Bi-Polar Type 2. As a man that lives with mental illness, Jeff doesn’t rest easy. He’s fully aware of who he is and what he needs. His therapist says, “Jeff is a high functioning man living with mental illness.” Jeff needs to be busy and loves playing with wood and building things. It’s an outlet and part of his self-care. So, when Jeff isn’t on the road speaking you can find him in the wood shop building things and playing with tools.
The wood shop serves a couple purposes for Jeff:
- He is a strong advocate for the trades and vocational industry and tells youth that not everyone needs to go to college when you consider the cost of education compared to the value, especially when you don’t know what you want. Learn the trades because it’s a great opportunity. Especially in the world we are growing up in today.
- Jeff feels that in the next decade the trade industry is where many job opportunities are going to be and that parents and teens shouldn’t shy away because they think they’re too good. Do what you love to do.
- As a man living with mental illness, Jeff believes that one’s self-care is of the utmost importance and Jeff’s self-care comes from his passion of working and building things.
One of Jeff’s favorite things to do is make cutting boards. Here is what Jeff calls, “The Purple Heart.” A tribute to all our service members past, present, and future.
